Art is a vehicle for my ideas, feelings and concerns. Within the world of my studio I put my ideas into motion, attempting to function as a scientist, experimenting and exploring with a wide variety of media. Often my works are directly inspired by these media explorations.
Collage is a very important part of my artistic practice. My large collection of archaeology and science magazines and other scraps of paper has fueled many a creation. I think it harkens back to my love of paper dolls and jigsaw puzzles. Every collage is a meditative journey and these works often end up feeling much more edgy and direct than any of my drawing and painting – another way I riff on the news.
Sculpture and conceptual installations are also an important facet of my artistic output, especially the creation of works from scrap wood and discarded items.
